A day in the life of Claire Saxton – Marketing Consultant and Mum to Two

I’m a proud Mum of two alongside being a marketing consultant and business owner, so today I wanted to do something a little bit different with my blog and share with you what my typical workday looks like balancing work with the demands of family life.

I always find it fascinating how other business owners spend their day. What does their typical schedule look like? I guess it’s a curiosity that could get me in trouble, but as a proud Mum of two and a business owner, I’m always interested in finding out how other working Mum’s manage everything.

So, I thought it would be fun to share my own day and what a typical schedule looks like. I’d love to find out about yours too, so feel free to drop me a comment below and share your experiences as a working Mum.

My day starts in a way most of you will be familiar with – waking up, getting the kids up and dressed and walking to school. Back home and as my youngest has his nap, I spend the next two hours catching up on emails, have a consultation with a prospective new client looking for some help with marketing strategy, and I check in with some Facebook groups for online networking.

Being able to work virtually and connect with people through social media has been a real help to me managing work life with caring for my children and family. I’m a member of a few working Mum groups where we can share our experiences, hints and tips and get some valuable business networking time in too.

Before I know it, it’s time to collect my daughter from school. I actually really enjoy the walk to and from school, I love spending time outdoors and enjoy that precious time to myself and my own thoughts! Before I know it, we’re back home, I’m getting tea ready, and we’re spending time as a family playing and puzzling through homework before bed.

The evening is when I’m most productive when it comes to work

I’ve always been a night owl, so when the kids are fast asleep is when you’ll find me doing most of my work for clients. I’m usually found doing a mixture of tasks, including:

  • putting together a marketing strategy
  • scheduling social media content for my clients
  • proofreading some copywriting before it goes to print
  • sourcing some promotional items for clients to give away at Christmas
  • and so much more!

I often wonder if I had more time – would it take me longer to get the same amount of work done? Chances are, yes it would, procrastination through the day would still lead to me working late in the evening! I think knowing you have x amount of work to do in a set amount of time is great at keeping you motivated and on track to getting it done!

While life as a business owning Mum isn’t easy, I really do love my work and being able to be at home with my children when they need me. I know that working from home isn’t for everyone, but if you’re wondering how on earth you’re going to manage everything, trust me, it’s more than possible.

One way of making it easier is to outsource those time-consuming tasks so you can really focus on the work that matters to you. To find out more about my marketing services and how I can help you spend more time with your family, get in touch with me today for your free consultation.
